How to Draw a Simple Nurse for Kids

Our movies and comic books are filled with many colorful superheroes, but in reality we have many people who are practically superheroes themselves!

Nurses would certainly qualify for that distinction, as they tirelessly dedicate their time to helping and saving others, often at the risk of their own well-being.

Learning how to draw a nurse is a great way to honor the hard work and dedication that nurses show every day to help us.

How to Draw A Nurse – Let's Get Started!

Step 1

To begin this guide on how to draw a nurse, we will start with the headgear that nurses will often wear.

These breathable caps help keep hair out of the nurse's face so that they can concentrate fully on the task at hand.

These caps will cover the entirety of the top of the head, from the forehead and all the way to the back of the head.

The cap will look like it is in two sections for this first step, as there are some lines halfway up the cap, as shown in the reference image.

You will see why these lines are there soon, as they actually form the strap of the surgical mask she is wearing.

We will draw that mask soon enough, so once you have drawn this cap to look like our reference, you will be ready for step 2.

Step 2 – Draw her mask, eyes and shoulders

As we mentioned in the previous part of your nurse drawing, this next step will see you adding the surgical mask that would be covering the bottom half of her face.

First, you can draw her eyes and eyebrows close under the rim of her cap, and you can use the reference image to guide you as to how they should be positioned.

Then, below the eyes we will be using some curved lines to create the top of her mask going over her nose and connecting to the straps.

Finally, we will be using some more curved lines for the start of her shoulders, and we will also draw a piece of her stethoscope hanging over her shoulder.

Step 3 – Next, draw some more detail for her top

In this step of our guide on how to draw a nurse, we will be adding some detail to her chest as well as the clothes she is wearing.

First, you can add some curved lines for her collarbones. Then, we will use some straight lines connecting to one another for the collar of her top.

Finally for this step, you can extend lines down from her shoulders for the tops of her arms, and we will also draw the start of one of her hands by drawing some fingers on the arm.

Once you have drawn all of these details, it will be on to step 4.

Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of her arms

The pose we are depicting in this nurse drawing has her with her arms crossed, as you can see in our example image.

You can use some curved lines to have the arm on the left extending from beneath the fingers that you drew in the previous step.

The end of this arm will be tucked inside the other one, and we shall draw that second arm now.

Before you draw that second time, you can first draw a curved horizontal line at the base of the sleeve on the right.

Then, you can draw the second arm extending down from the sleeve opening, bending to go under the other arm.

The end of it will be the fingers that you drew in the last step. Drawing a pose like this can be surprisingly tricky, so make sure to closely copy the reference image so you don't get lost!

Step 5 – Add some final details to your nurse drawing

This step of our guide on how to draw a nurse will see you finishing off the picture to have you ready for the final step.

First, use some thin lines to draw the rest of her stethoscope hanging over the other shoulder. Then, we will use some more slightly curved lines for the bottom of her gown dropping below her crossed arms.

You can then add some smaller details such as creases in her clothes and some front pouches for her gown.

Once you have added these details, what others can you think of to add to it? Maybe you could draw a background to show the hospital she is working in for one idea.

Step 6 – Finish off your nurse drawing with some color

For the final step of your nurse drawing, we will finish it off with some color.

A nurse's clothing will usually be a light blue or turquoise, so we used shades of these colors for her clothing to really finish it off.

There are other colors you could go for instead as well, so this is a great chance for you to incorporate some of your favorite colors into this picture.

When you have decided on the colors you would like, you can then pick the art mediums you will use to achieve them. We can't wait to see what you choose!
